MULTI-PLATINUM DUO TAKE THE STAGE ON FOX’S “SO YOU THINK YOU CAN DANCE” ON JULY 16

NEW YORK, July 14, 2014 /PRNewswire/ — It’s undoubtedly been a great big year for A Great Big World. Their breakthrough hit “Say Something” with Christina Aguilera went six times platinum worldwide, and went on to occupy the #1 spot on iTunes, Billboard‘s Digital Songs Chart, Billboard‘s Digital Track Chart, Spotify, and Shazam in addition to going Top 10 on sales charts in 19 countries. Now continuing this historic year, A Great Big World is the latest artist to officially become Vevo Certified. Their touching music video for “Say Something”has accumulated over 100 million views and counting on the video platform. This is their first video to becomeVevo Certified and yet another incredible achievement in a string of accolades.

In addition, the New York duo of Ian Axel and Chad Vaccarino will take the stage on Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance on July 16 to perform “Say Something”. It’s a special moment for the group as last year’s dance performance of the song not only caught the attention of the world but also the attention of Aguilera inspiring her to collaborate with them on the song.

Along the way, A Great Big World has tirelessly worked to become one of modern pop music’s most astounding success stories. Building on the plaintive piano chords and undeniable melody of “Say Something”, the track became a ubiquitous worldwide hit. At the same time, they were recognized as an Artist To Watch by MTV and a VH1 You Oughtta Know artist. They’ve given striking and stunning live performances at the American Music AwardsThe Victoria’s Secret Fashion ShowThe VoiceGood Morning AmericaThe Today ShowLive! with Kelly & MichaelThe Rachael Ray Show,  Late Night with Seth Meyers, The Logo Trailblazer Awards, and more. They’ve also garnered unanimous critical acclaim.

In the midst of it all, Vaccarino even worked up the courage to open up about his struggles with Multiple Sclerosis. Since first being diagnosed in 2007, he’s bravely endured living with the disease, and now he’s spoken up to raise awareness.

It’s been a magical journey thus far for the group. In addition to debuting at #3 on the Billboard Top 200, Is There Anybody Out There? received widespread critical acclaim upon its release in January. Their breakthrough mega-hit with Christina Aguilera“Say Something,” ignited a fast rise to success back in November 2012. As their profile grew, the single entranced the entire world, eventually selling over six million digital songs at a rapid rate worldwide.

The weather may have started wet, but the sun broke through and Commencement celebrations among more than 6,000 graduates and guests were hardly dampened, as the 1,035 members of the Roger Williams University Class of 2014 culminated their college careers at the University’s annual Commencement exercises.

In addition to awarding bachelor’s and master’s degrees to the candidates, RWU President Donald J. Farish conferred honorary doctorates to two special guests: the Honorable Lincoln D. Chafee, the 74th governor of the State of Rhode Island; and Pulitzer Prize-winning author and historian Doris Kearns Goodwin.

Selected as the university’s Commencement speaker in celebration of the growing array of projects in which RWU students and faculty have partnered with organizations to improve quality of life in the State, Governor Chafee called upon Roger Williams, the University’s namesake and the State’s founder, as an example for today’s graduates – and particularly his role as a peacemaker in his era.

“To build an age of lasting peace for your generation will require concentration and will,” Governor Chafee told the graduates. “Perhaps we can draw inspiration from the examples of Roger Williams. If you learn languages, as he did, you can engage the world on its own terms. If you start new enterprises, as he did, you can invite others into the experiment and provide jobs and opportunities for many others… If you speak truth to power, as he did, you will be faithful to your conscience and you will help our society to stay strong. If you work to achieve consensus, as he did, you will become a meaningful part of whatever community you choose to join and you will plant your ideals in the hard soil of everyday reality.”

How to Select the Perfect Wines for Any Summer Event

How to Select the Perfect Wines for Any Summer Event

(Family Features) From weekend backyard barbecues to spontaneous weeknight gatherings, summer is filled with celebrations that bring friends and family together for fabulous food, drink and fun. Whether you’re unsure of what wines to serve as the host, or the best refreshment to pick as a guest, you don’t have to be a master sommelier to choose the perfect wine pairing for every meal or occasion.

As a general rule, nature has color-coded foods with the wines best suited for their flavors. For example, white wines pair well with light foods, while dark wines usually complement richer fare. Here are some more specific scenarios to help you enjoy the warm weather and good times ahead this summer.

Wedding Showers and Celebrations

Long summer days are a great time to celebrate big life events – like wedding showers and house-warming parties. Because many of these soirees include an assortment of foods, there are several routes you can take to discover the perfect wine pairing. For guests enjoying fresh, fruit salad or tilapia with a mango salsa, consider an herbaceous sauvignon blanc which will complement the fruit flavors with its crisp acidity. For those who prefer a more floral wine, a viognier may be the answer to go alongside any grilled chicken or seafood dish.

Al Fresco Events

Summer is often marked by cookouts, picnics and other al fresco dining occasions. A top choice among many guests is a vibrant, flavorful glass of chardonnay. This favorite white wine pairs well with crisp summer salads and lighter grilled selections, such as salmon and shrimp entrees. One expressive offering, Kendall-Jackson AVANT Chardonnay, is fruit forward and fermented in a combination of stainless steel tanks and neutral oak barrels, which bring out its distinctive green apple and lemon flavors. It is the choice for those who prefer a Chardonnay with a little less oak.

Summer Barbecues and Daytime Events

If a sunny, mid-day get together is in your future, there is one delicious pairing option to consider. For hosts who plan to serve a grilled selection, such as pork chops or saucy, smoky ribs, consider pairing the menu with an expressive and fruit forward red blend. Kendall-Jackson AVANT Red Blend offers a silky and smooth texture that begins with fermentation in neutral oak barrels to bring out rich, fruit flavors. A sultry mosaic of French varieties, the wine focuses on Syrah and Malbec with aromas of ripe raspberry and bold black cherry.  Hints of spice and dark chocolate  deliver a smooth, lingering finish, so this red blend will also complement a grilled steak or any other red meat favorite.
No matter what festivities are booked on your summer calendar, this season is full of delightful sips for every event. For more ideas to make celebrations special, visit KJ.com/Avant.
