Dear Neighbor of Southeastern Connecticut and Southern Rhode Island…
Our 31st Annual Scholarship Dinner will be held at the Mystic Marriott in Groton, CT on Thursday, October 18, 2012, starting at 6:00pm. This event is the major fund raising activity of the year, and serves as the forum where we introduce our very worthy and inspiring Dr. King Scholars to the community. This year, there will be a total of eight recipients, each receiving a $20,000.00 scholarship award.
With the support and commitment of others, we have been able to provide financial assistance to 113 New London County students who have made and continue to make significant professional and community service contributions worldwide. MLK Scholars have attended and graduated from some of the finest colleges and universities throughout the United Sates including, Connecticut College, Worcester Polytechnic Institute, Duke, Howard, Harvard, Spellman, Yale, Georgetown, Hampton, Brown, Stanford and the University of Connecticut, to name a few.
The Trust Fund was started upon the death of Dr. King in 1968. Our mission has been clear from its inception – to provide substantial financial support to outstanding African-Americans and students of color from Southeastern Connecticut. Now, as an endowed fund, the Trust Fund is a perpetual source for making higher education dreams come true for scholars in our community.
