Saint Ann’s Church in Old Lyme presents the Lyra Choir from St. Petersburg, Russia

LYRA 2014-1 folk

St. Ann’s Episcopal Church in Old Lyme is pleased to welcome the Lyra Choir from St. Petersburg, Russia, in concert on, Sunday,  September 28, 2014, at 7:30pm.  The Lyra Choir  is a community of professional musicians, many of whom are students or postgraduates of the renowned Saint Petersburg Conservatoire, working in different choirs throughout the city of Saint Petersburg.  Members of the Choir represent different musical professions: choir conductors, opera singers, instrumentalists, music teachers – all united by love for choir and ensemble singing.

In 2001 the Lyra Choir was awarded the Montreux (Switzerland) international choral festival diploma. In 2005 the group was also a winner of Coleraine International Choral Festival (Northern Ireland).  The main goal of the Lyra Choir is to explore and popularize Russian choral music. Through their performances, they introduce the enormous musical heritage of the Russian Orthodox Church, as well as traditions of Russian folk music to all people who are interested in Russia, its history and culture.

This concert is free and open to the public on a first-come, first-served basis.  Space is limited and the doors for the concert will open at 7:00pm. A free-will offering will be collected and the Choir will donate a portion of the offering back to Saint Ann’s to aid in the parish’s community outreach efforts.  After the concert, Saint Ann’s invites guests to join with the Lyra Choir for a gathering of fellowship and refreshments.
