Elin Hilderbrand was honored at Mohegan Sun’s Winning Authors series on August 18 in the Mohegan Sun Cabaret Theatre, a tribute to her status as a daughter of summertime and author of 12-best “beach-read” romance novels. Her most recent book, Beautiful Day, was treated to her personal reading at the gathering, which was followed by a book-signing in the Sun Concourse.
Elin’s Beautiful Day is an emotional story of a Nantucket wedding that takes us into the heart of marriage, what it means to be faithful, and how to honor our commitments.
At the reading, Elin’s writing captured her readers with the summer-loving tale of beautiful Nantucket, and she likewise captivated admirers with her “beachy look” rainbow halter top, jeans of spotless white, flat sandals, and her golden tan and flowing golden hair. Elin joins a list of outstanding “winning authors,” including Jerry West, Nora Roberts, Harlan Coben, Sue Grafton, Marcia Clark, and Robin Cook.
Born in Pennsylvania, as a girl she looked forward to spending her childhood summertimes on Cape Cod with her family, playing games, adventuring around the beach, and achieving the perfect tan. After her father’s untimely death when she was 16, Elin promised herself that, for the rest of her life, she would immerse herself in summers of the sort that she remembered so well.
She moved to Nantucket in 1993, took a job on a local newspaper, and soon began her independent writing career, combining her observation with insights from her education at Johns Hopkins University and the graduate fiction workshop at the University of Iowa.
