A success: a success for Mystic Area Shelter & Hospitality (MASH), and a success in support of local families facing housing emergencies.
The Seventh Annual “Iron Chef” Competition & Auction for Action on a fine August 16 evening at St. Edmund’s Retreat at Enders Island raised critical funds to help homeless families in New London County.
“It was a great night, everyone had fun, and it was for a good cause,” said MASH office manager Pamela Mola. “Our auction raised a very welcome amount—$80,000—and it made our event’s seventh year a great success!” The auction enthusiasm was fueled by the snappy patter of ace auctioneer Dan Stanavage, who kept everyone on the edges of their seats as he strode around the room harvesting fine bids for fine opportunities.
In the culinary duel, Executive Chef Edward Allen of Foxwoods Resort Casino edged out Executive Chef Ryan Calvo of Bar Americain at Mohegan Sun. The pastry demonstration saw Mohegan Sun’s Chef Lynn Mansel squeeze by Foxwoods Resort Casino’s Chef Franck Iglesias in their samplings at dessert stations. And the lavish live auction attracted the bidding of the 250 attendees for items such as a full-service Ocean House year-round package, a captained daysail aboard a Swan 57, and “Something for Everyone, Every Season” from both Foxwoods Resort Casino and Mohegan Sun.
Among the key supporters of the evening are Ocean House, L+M Hospital, Jack Falvey Associates, Citizens Bank, Charter Oak Credit Union, the Mystic Area Ecumenical Council, Mohegan Sun, Foxwoods Resort Casino, Waterford Group, Stonington Seafood Harvesters, and Grey Sail Brewing of Rhode Island.
