A fine soft June night at Misquamicut’s Venice Restaurant hosted festivities honoring two of greater Westerly’s finest: Robert Valenti, Jr., and Sherry Quinlan.
The Greater Westerly-Pawcatuck Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Membership Banquet and 56th Annual Awards Ceremony recognized Rob with its Citizen of the Year Award for “outstanding leadership and exceptional contributions to the community” and Sherry with its Key Award, for a least 125 hours helping with Superstorm Sandy activity, including securing donations and organizing volunteers.
The evening’s master of ceremonies was B. Michael Rauh, President of Chelsea Groton Bank, and the Chamber President’s Report was presented by Debra Turrisi. Outgoing board of directors members Everett Blanchard, Sergio Cherenzia, and Paul Donahue were honored for their service and new directors Jen Brinton, Susan Denice, Angie Smith, Bence Strickland, and Chris Beck were welcomed to the board.
The evening included a “Great Escape Auction” with hotly contested services, events, and objets d’art.
As president of the Valenti Family of Dealerships, Rob Valenti is deeply invested in local economy and its service organizations, said the Chamber. The Westerly location of the auto-dealership network now employs more than 30 people.
“Sherry is very dedicated, has a wonderful disposition and has been a tremendous asset helping us with the
tremendous extra workload the Chamber has taken on in recent months. We couldn’t have done it without her,” said Chamber Executive Director Lisa Konicki.
