Project New Hope, a nonprofit organization based in Leicester, Mass., was honored on October 3 by the US Family Health Plan as the recipient of the 2012 Col. Robert E. Hawes Award for Community Service, in recognition of their support of veterans and their families. Project New Hope began in the fall of 2008 in Minnesota, and was brought to Massachusetts in 2010 by Leicester resident Bill Moore, a former Air Force Crash Rescue Firefighter. Since that time, Project New Hope and Moore have been recognized by multiple organizations for their work providing weekend retreats and services for veterans and their families; giving them the opportunity to receive education, training and skills to help manage their lives after wartime service.
