There is indeed art in wine, music, food… and matching
them up for a great experience. Members of the Lyme-Old
Lyme Chamber of Commerce received a short course in one of
life’s little pleasures at its January 19th Business After Hours, held
at Ken Turcotte’s Divine Wine Emporium on Shore Road, Route
156, near Niantic.
Turcotte is celebrating his tenth year at his store, which he terms “a
wine shop with an education center.” He’s given courses, sponsored
speakers, held tastings, and produced musical evenings. Over the
years, he’s held 52 courses that have attracted upwards of 1000 people and
rave reviews.
The Chamber attendees were given a survey of fundamentals of
wine types, with discussions of their creation in soils and under skies
around the Old and New World. And the Chamber enjoyed
some tasting too, with emphasis on contrasts between wine types. Tasty?
Tangy? Full? Fruity? Worthy of a connoisseur?
Turcotte has a simple rule: he insists that “If it pleases you, that’s all
that matters.”
