Local Students Win Outstanding Achievement Awards

Brittany Shinn, a junior at Connecticut College, was awarded the Susan Wagner Child Development Award. The award is given to a human development major who works in a caring manner to bring together children with a wide range of abilities in the inclusive environment of the children’s program. Brittany, a 2007 graduate of Fitch High School, is the daughter of Kelly and Kenneth Shinn of Mystic.

Meghan McLean, a sophomore at Connecticut College, was awarded the Hamilton M. Smyser Prize, which is given for excellence in creative fiction. Meghan, a 2008 graduate of Lyme-Old Lyme High School, is the daughter of Christina McLean of Old Lyme.

Alicia Morgan, a senior at Connecticut College, was awarded the Jean V. Johnston Prize, which is given to the chemistry major who contributes the most to the department. She was also awarded the American Institute of Chemists Foundation Award, which is given for excellence in biochemistry. Alicia, a 2006 graduate of Ledyard High School, is the daughter of Ann and John Morgan of Ledyard.
