Slater Museum to Close in July for Construction

The Slater Memorial Museum of the Norwich Free Academy announced that it will be closed to the public From July 1 to September 3.  The closing is necessary to protect the public and the museum’s collections during the early phases of construction begun in late April.  The project will make the Slater, Converse, Norton and Alumni Gym buildings universally accessible and compliant with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act.

The project will result in the construction of a new atrium connector of largely steel and glass set back from the front (Crescent Street).  In order to prepare for the general construction and several smaller, code-required interior projects, museum staff will de-install objects and exhibitions to ensure protection of the collection.
