On May 15th, the Stonington Harbor Yacht Club Sailing Foundation will hold their first Commissioning Ceremony in conjunction with the Stonington Harbor Yacht Club. Commissioning is a major event as it marks the official start of each boating season. It honors seafaring traditions passes on for generations, and celebrates the passion both Club and Foundation share for advancing understanding and enjoyment of the sea. This joint Commissioning also honors the shared history, as the Foundation was created as an independently governed non-profit corporation by members of the Yacht Club to support the community.
The Sailing Center will be open all day, and at approximately 6:30pm, they will announce two Special Olympic Athletes whom the Foundation is sponsoring to sail in the 2011 World Games in Greece. Please stop by and visit!
