Ledyard resident Denise Knott poses with state Rep. Betsy Ritter, D-Waterford, at MS Action Day, held at the State Capitol in Hartford. The event, hosted by the National MS Society, Connecticut Chapter, attracted more than 50 people living with multiple sclerosis from across the state. Ritter said she learned about MS after one of her best friends from high school was diagnosed in her mid-30’s. “It made me more aware of the disease and its insidious nature,” she said. “We have to look more carefully at health care programs that can help people living with multiple sclerosis.”

Margaret E. Iacoi

The Margaret E. Iacoi Memorial Foundation for Widowed Mothers is pleased to announce the presentation of its 19th Annual Foundation Award. The Foundation received several well-deserving applications and was extremely pleased to have the opportunity to present as the recipients for the 2010 Margaret E. Iacoi Memorial Foundation for Widowed Mothers the amount of $2,000.00 to the Family of Mrs. Laura Chiardio and her two sons Cole and Brayden, of Westerly, RI.

This year the Foundation reached outside the Greater Westerly-Pawcatuck and Chariho area communities and made a special $500.00 donation to the family of the late Joseph Ferrucci, Esquire of East Greenwich, RI.

The mission of the Foundation was to provide financial assistance to widowed mothers and their families; however, in 2006 the Margaret E. Iacoi Memorial Foundation for Widowed Mothers expanded its mission to include fathers and husbands residing in the Greater Westerly-Pawcatuck-Chariho area communities in order to ease the economic and emotional burdens experienced by the loss of a wife and mother and/or husband and father and simultaneously strengthen and reinforce the family bond.

The Foundation welcomes “all kinds” of contributions towards its annual award(s) from individuals and corporations throughout the year. For more information about the Margaret E. Iacoi Memorial Foundation for Widowed Mothers, or to become a contributing friend of the Foundation, please visit the Foundation website at: www.meiacoifoundation.org
