Welcome to the Resident’s most popular issue — Women In Biz — It’s chocked-full of women making strides across the region. They’re working hard and they’re growing the economy in large and small sectors. They’re ambitious, courageous, persistent and successful-and, we are the lucky benefactors.

From the front cover to page after page in this issue, you will find examples of those who are today’s achievers. There’s an exclusive interview with Softball Olympian Jenni Finch here. Jenni tells Resident reporter Chris Annino,  “The secret to my success was I always got to the park early and left later than anyone else.  It’s hard work but if you want it enough, you can do it.”

Let’s salute two outstanding young women who are not only the top two students in their class at Saint Bernard High but they both received appointments to U.S. Service Academies.  Yes!  Faith Hoffman, daughter of Marlin and Gina Hoffman, Westerly, officially accepted her appointment at West Point this fall.  Katherine Brown, daughter of Tom and Kathy Brown, Mystic, isn’t making it official, yet, but is leaning toward accepting her appointment to the Naval Academy here.

Mohegan’s first elected Chairwoman Lynn Malerba tells the Resident here, “Women have always had a very strong role in leadership across Tribes. Even though I am the first elected chairwoman, women have always been leaders in the Tribe.  I think I’m just carrying on the more informal tradition, formally.”
