Susanna Pilny, senior, St. Bernard High School,  and daughter of Dr. Melanie Dufour-Pilny and Richard Pilny attended the 2009 Vanderbilt Summer Adademy (VSA) Med School 101, a program for gifted High School students hosted by Vanderbilt University’s Programs for Talented Youth (PTY).  Students who attend VSA are among the brightest in the country, scoring in the top tier on academic achievement tests like the SAT.

Med School 101 was designed for academically talented High School students with a strong interest in medicine.  The program consisted of a three-week program immersing students in learning about human organ systems, emerging public health issues, and what it means, practically and ethically, to practice medicine in today’s world.  The caliber of VSA’s teaching staff and students’ access to university resources makes VSA unique among summer academic programs for gifted youth.

Saint Bernard School is a private, catholic, college prep, co-educational school for grades 6-12 open to students of all faiths.
