Greetings…The Resident Community Tabloid is enjoying bringing you good news “scoops.”  What’s a scoop?  It’s a news tip for an exclusive story that you will read here FIRST.

This issue, we feature these scoops… John “Whit” Davis  celebrated his 85th Birthday at a Farmer’s Market held on the grounds of the Pequotsepos Nature Center.  A few days later, the Connecticut Agricultural Information Council named Whit “Farmer of the Century.”

First Selectman Ed Haberek, Jr., attending both the birthday party and award reception held at the Connecticut Agriculture Experiment Station, Plant Science Day 2009 at the Lockwood Farm, Hamden, proclaimed August 5th 2009 as Whit Davis Day in the Town of Stonington.  “I encourage you to join me in recognizing the remarkable life lead by this humble and incredibly hardworking man,” said Selectman Haberek here.

Best In Show is another scoop here.  Meet Rufus.  He’s top dog, a tan and white bull terrier known for his big noggin, which is why he finds himself in the Winner’s Circle so often.  Really!  The good news is that Rufus is coming to town to help raise money to restore the Charles W. Morgan.  Rufus will make a special appearance during an extravagant cocktail party at the Ancient Mariner Restaurant in Downtown Mystic on August 27th.  Catch this…he’ll be wearing a fireman’s hat while taking a spin on Pizzetta’s fire truck.  Ticket info and more here.

Volunteer Bill Welsh of Mystic was awarded the Jacqueline B. Nixon Community Service Award on Auguest 7th.  This award is hosted by Groton Utilities.  Meet a dedicated Bill here.
