On June 27, at The Garde Arts Center, New London, 2008 Miss Connecticut Ashley Glenn passed her crown to Southington resident and newly elected 2009 Miss Connecticut Sharalynn Kuziak. Also crowned that day was Hamden resident Acacia Courtney as Miss Connecticut’s Outstanding Teen. Both women were well accomplished as students and went above and beyond to assist their community.
Sharalynn is a recently Cum Laude graduate from Quinnipiac University with a Bachelor of Science degree. She created the “Walking on Sunshine Program” that caters to sick individuals who are in hospitals and nursing homes. Sharalynn uses her musical talents as therapy to help sooth many of the occupants of those institutions. She said, “For my legacy I would like people to remember me as being approachable and caring. I believe people don’t always remember what you said, but they will always remember how you made them feel.”
Acacia is a National Merritt Scholar, an award winning dancer, and wishes someday to go to school to become a Vet for large cats. Her platform issue was excellence in education and how to improve education one student at a time. This summer she will embark on competing for America’s Most Outstanding Teen.
