On April 25, hundreds of people from all over southeastern CT and RI gathered at Donahue Park to witness thousands of yellow rubber ducks get dumped into the Pawcatuck River as part of the 11th Annual Pawcatuck River Duck Race. As part of the Westerly-Pawcatuck Chamber of Commerce fundraiser, 41 local schools and non-profit organizations sold the ducks to raise money for themselves and the Greater Westerly Chamber Foundation.
The first 100 ducks to cross the finish line won prizes. Prizes included a trip to Disney World, won by Melinda Walsh and Mark Bulinger, Westerly, a family membership to the Ocean Community YMCA, won by Keidra Nicastro, West Warwick, $500 gift card to Cardi’s Furniture, given to Chris Haggerty, Norwich, four tickets to Trinity Rep Theater for Jenifer Horst, Groton, and $150 gift card to Bob’s Discount Furniture, won by James Corbett, Carolina, RI.
