I lived in Gales Ferry from the summer of 1936 to summer 1939. The site was then owned by the Hill family who lived in a large house nearby. Charlie and Billy Hill were in Gales Ferry Grammar School with me at the time. The Oak was very much alive then and I often pedaled my bicycle up Christy Road Hill to see the Oak and visit the Hill brothers.
