On Tuesday, March 3, the Chamber of Commerce of Eastern CT celebrated the grand opening of Brown Jacobson’s Groton office with a ribbon cutting. The new office is on the third floor of Chelsea Groton at 904 Poquonnock Road.
“We are very happy to be here,” said Karl-Erik Sternlof, director, Brown Jacobson. “We have a long relationship with Chelsea Groton. When the office became available, they asked if we would be interested. It is ideal for us. A lot of our clients live down the shoreline and this location is a lot more convenient.”
Brown Jacobson, P.C., Attorneys at Law, was founded in May 1966. The firm also occupies two historic landmarks in downtown Norwich: the former Uncas-Merchants National Bank Building and the former Thames National Bank Building.
The Portuguese Holy Ghost Society, Main Street, Stonington Borough is once again hosting its Fish & Chips Luncheon every Friday through Lent. The kitchen opens at 12:00 pm and take-out and sit down dinners are available through 7:30 pm. Call ahead orders for take out are available until 4:00 pm. Fish & Chips dinners are available for $9.00 with $1 senior discount from 12:00 – 4:00 pm. Scallops, whole belly clams, calamari, and chowder are also available.
The tradition continues for 15 years. Over 600 pounds of fresh fish, scallops, clams and calamari are delivered each Thursday to be prepared by volunteers. “By Friday night, we expect it to be gone,” said Tommy Smith, president. “The line is always out the door. Come in, have a drink at the bar and relax while you wait.
Over 60 volunteers make the Fish Fries happen each week, from setup, clean up, cooking, collecting money, and bartending. “It’s a total team effort. If it weren’t for the volunteers, we couldn’t do it. There is no way three or four people could pull it off,” said Tommy. “We have 8-14 year olds serve at night. It’s the next generation of volunteers.”
“The profit goes towards scholarships and the Society’s Building Fund. It’s how we did the immense work on the outside of the building a few years ago. We also sell ducks [for the Pawcatuck River Duck Race] for the schools. We sold out last year.”
The Society also hosts Fish Fries starting the first Friday in October. The fall session runs for six to seven weeks.
