The Well Healed Woman is a one-day conference, presented by Lawrence & Memorial Hospital, designed especially for women. Held at the Mystic Marriott Hotel & Spa on November 9th, the conference featured five-time Emmy Award-winning actress, Doris Roberts, and well-known L&M nutritionist Mary Ann Nash, RD, CDE, covering topics that promote health, healing and humor.

Mary Ann Nash opened the conference with her presentation “Is There a Magic Bullet? Secrets to An Anti-Aging Lifestyle.” She discussed ten strategies to help stop the aging clock focusing on what we eat, how we burn it, and how we deal with stress. Her most humorous piece of advice is, “Don’t eat anything your great grandmother wouldn’t recognize as food.”

Doris, perhaps best known for her role as the beloved but meddling mother “Marie” on the popular TV series “Everybody Loves Raymond,” talked about her personal challenges and triumphs in her own journey of becoming a Well Healed Woman. Her presentation “Life is Fabulous: You Do Not Need Permission To Live!” included a collection of Doris’s stories that illustrated not only her ability to laugh and make people laugh, but showed how she persevered in a tough industry and throughout her life. Her advice is, “It’s ok to look back, just don’t stare.”

When the discussion opened to a Q&A session, someone   asked, “What do you like best about yourself.”

Doris’s answer, “That I can lay my head on my pillow at night and know, I have hurt no one.” She certainly helped the 700 women in attendance.
