On a Saturday evening at 5 O’ Clock, singer, songwriter, and author Jimmy Buffett performed an intimate, invitation only concert for 650 lucky guests at the grand opening celebration of Margaritaville at Mohegan Sun’s new Casino of The Wind. Some of the guests included Jimmy Buffett fan club members (Parrotheads), Red Sox slugger David Ortiz, the Resident Newspaper, and radio contest winners.
Hours before the doors opened, Parrotheads began lining up outside the restaurant hoping to grab the best spot in the house. Jimmy Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band played for over an hour. The set included some of Buffett’s classics; “Margaritaville”, “It’s Five O’ Clock Somewhere” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise.”
Guests were not only treated to the amazing entertainment but also sipped on signature margaritas, dined on mini cheeseburger sliders, and other island inspired fare. Fans who weren’t able to gain entrance into to the event gathered outside the restaurant, watched the show from a distance and sang along as Buffett performed. After the concert, the doors opened to the public where fans and guests dined and partied until closing.
The private concert celebrated the unveiling of the new 16,000 square foot, nautical-themed restaurant, bar, retail store and live entertainment venue; Mohegan Sun’s first indoor/outdoor venue with a view of the Thames River. Escape to Margaritaville for a few hours. It’s not just a restaurant; it’s a state of mind!
