Dr. Mary Ellen Jukoski Honored

Tony Sheridan, President, Chamber of Commerce of ECT, welcomed 400 guests who came to celebrate Dr. Mary Ellen Jukoski, president of Mitchell College, for her exemplary service to our community.  Mary Ellen is this year’s recipient of the William Crawford Distinguished Service Award.

“Mary Ellen has demonstrated her commitment to this region through her dedication to Mitchell College, where she has served as president since 1995.  Since Dr. Jukoski stepped into this role, the college’s charter expanded to offer Bachelor’s degrees, enrollment has nearly tripled, and diversity at the school is increasing. Her efforts succeeded in attracting more young people to the area, a critical component of economic growth and development…We are all beneficiaries of her good will.”

Len Wolman, Chairman of Waterford Group, LLC, “Mary Ellen has affected our lives beyond Mitchell College, including my wife, Robyn, who earned a degree there.”

Attorney General Richard Blumenthal stated, “She is a legend in the education community.”

Isabelle Singer, executive director, Eastern Connecticut Symphony, a personal friend of Mary Ellen, gave some insight into the guest of honor, “She is a 3-dimensional person:  warmth, personality and always a smile on her face.”  “She looks into your eyes and asks you how you are doing.”

Stephen Percy, Director, New London Development Corp., “Mary Ellen is truly a remarkable woman.”

Richard Milner, chair, Board of Trustees, Mitchell College, quoted Oscar Wilde, “If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much room.”  “Mary Ellen keeps the college on the edge.”

It was a wonderful evening enjoyed by all.  The Mystic Marriott did a beautiful job with the Surf ‘n Turf and superior service.
