The Resident offers a final salute to Paul Newman, Connecticut’s legendary film star and philanthropist.  I was lucky to meet this wonderful actor at his Hole In The Wall Camp and he goes down in my history as my first celebrity photo shoot.

Here’s how it went…I was attending a charity event at the Hole in the Wall Camp and while standing outside of the theater where a silent auction was going on, there is Paul Newman, dressed in khaki trousers and matching golf jacket, riding his bicycle.  I could feel my jaw drop while I followed him with my eyes.  My camera was in my hands.

“Oh my God, I thought, he’s biking toward me!!”  My heart rate went off the charts and my hands began to tremble.  Now, Paul Newman is right in front of me, smiling at me with those big baby blues!!  Holy you-know-what!

I am star struck.  There really is such a thing.  Somehow, I find the words, “Mr. Newman, could I take a photograph of you?”  I bring the camera up and attempt to get him in focus.

He answers, “You can if you take off your lens cover!!”

We laugh together!  I’ll never forget the moment…his kindness was so evident.

I wanted to share the photo with you.

A Final Salute!
