Dear Neighbor of Southeastern CT & Southern RI, | The Resident

Fall is a great time of the year – especially in CT where our landscape turns from green to gold and all the other colors of the rainbow.  Fall is also the best time to follow Governor Rell’s advice and take a “Staycation” in our state.  CT has so much to offer, from beautiful foliage to pumpkins, apples, scarecrows and corn mazes.  So go out and have fun with your family and friends and enjoy the outdoors.

And to entice you outside this fall, The CT Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) is inviting all amateur photographers to dust off your cameras, drag your children away from TVs and video games, get on your walking shoes or your mountain bikes and get away from it all.

Go out and breathe some fresh air and explore all the natural wonder that makes the great state of CT so great.  And stop once in a while to take in the beauty that surrounds you and to snap a few photos,  Then, when you return from your adventure, e-mail your photos of fall foliage to DEP for publication on our website in a new feature entitled “Show Your Colors, CT.” With this new web feature we can show off your great photos and the special places that are right there in our own backyards or within a short driving distance from our homes.

Whether you decide to “Staycation” along the coastline of Long Island Sound, the northwestern hills, the local farms or the streets of CT’s quintessential New England towns, share your photos with us.   It’s easy.  Just visit www.ct.gov/dep/foliage to learn how.

As everyone who has participated in CT’s No Child Left Inside program will attest, relaxing with family and friends as you explore the outdoors is great fun any time of the year.  But in the fall, when colors are so vivid, the air is so crisp and clear, and the sunshine illuminates and filters through the foliage, I think you will find that nature is at its very best.  Share it with a child you care about.  Then share your photos with us.
Sincerely,
Gina McCarthy
Commissioner
CT Department of Environmental Protection
