This year’s annual Ahmad Rashad Celebrity Golf Classic was a success. Every year, Emmy award wining sports anchor and former football star Ahmad Rashad picks a good cause to raise money for and invites his celebrity friends. This year celebrities Jason Sehorn, Kevin Sorbo, Flex Anderson, Bret Boone, Marcus Allen, Ray Allen, Bill Murray, Vince Coleman, Lawrence Taylor, Charles Oakley, Ron Harper, Derrick Turk Sanderson, Olympic swimmer Phil Nevin, and many more donated their time for the cause.
The tournament was held at the very beautiful Mohegan Sun Country Club in Pautipaug, and more than $500,000 was raised during it. The charity that Ahmad chose this year was the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford, a charity that played a significant role in his life during his younger years.
Founded in 1860, the Boys and Girls Club of Hartford provides youth development programs, juvenile training, and serves over 8,000 children in their nine locations. The Boys and Girls Club of Hartford honored Ahmad Rashad by creating an outreach program called Passport to Manhood. The program will cater to young girls and boys to teach them life skills before they reach adulthood.
This year’s four-day tournament schedule was fun and positive. There were several different rounds of golf, an auction, a free concert featuring the Four Tops. Actor and Director Alfonso Ribeiro and Yankee pitcher Ralph Terry won the Celebrity Two Man Scramble.
“It is wonderful witnessing the community outreach for such a great cause. Myself and Ahmad, both enjoy seeing the happiness on the children’s faces. They are an amazing group of kids,” said Ahmad Rashad’s newly married wife Sales Johnson.
