Happy Happenings

by Alexis Ann

Yes! Happy Happenings are all around us as we go into this merry month of May. Everything is greening up, and flowers are abundant. It’s contagious, refreshing and oh so welcome after those winter months. Now, it’s time for sunshine and new beginnings.

The folks who work at Otis Library in Norwich, and the patrons who visit there, will have a new, sunny feeling in the $10.5 million renovated structure that opened recently in the same setting on Main Street. That’s about the only “same” element that can be found. The place glistens with a modernized look and an atrium that allows lots of light to flood the inside. The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation Information Center is unique- an appropriate tribute to the value MPTN leaders obviously assigned to libraries with their outstanding award of $1 million to help solve a major funding dilemma. Associate Editor Barbara Reed Collins gives readers a look at new beginnings on page 6.

Even the animals are happy now that sunny days have returned. It’s always a good feeling to realize the special bonds that we people have with our animals. Our own Kristi Randmetz, graphics production editor, tells us all about a special bond that has helped the owner in a battle against cancer, page 14. There’s more about dogs on pages 5, 6, and 11.

It was all about “Happy Happenings” as the Woman’s City Club of Norwich took on a Colonial look to celebrate the club’s 65th Anniversary of “American Home Day.” Get a glimpse of the fun on page 7.
