Giving Thanks

A chain of events turns into Good News…The Resident Wins a Media Charity Poker Tournament hosted by Foxwoods Resort Casino and the Pawcatuck Neighborhood Center Gets a Check for $15 Grand. It was all in and in the blind for R.D. “Buck” Griffith, circulation manager, The Resident. Yes, Lady Luck, Alexis Ann, editor & publisher, and a member of the board of directors for PNC was there to cheer on her Cowboy and designate the winnings to a favorite local charity. John O’Brien, President of Foxwoods and Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Elder Council Chairman Vernon Eleazer presented the $15,000 check to the Neighborhood Center. WOW! What an extraordinary Thanksgiving story. A heartfelt thanks to MPTN and Foxwoods for making this Thanksgiving a whole lot better for our local neighborhoods.

Again, another story of giving by the MPTN…Proceeds from the Native American Classic golf tournament held last spring were dispersed to eight local parks and recreation departments…$18,000 each and $73,250 to Catching the Dream, a Native American Scholarship Fund, for a total of $200,000. Hats off to tribal member Joey Carter and his team for running an excellent golf tournament!

The Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Connecticut invites the local military community to the table this Thanksgiving. “The new council adds a stronger link to the business community,” says Sean Sullivan, newly established council’s chairman. Council members are organizing assistance for a Thanksgiving holiday meal provided for over 600 service people each year.
